Since 2005 I have been Full Professor of English at the University of Bergamo, Italy. My main publications focus on Late Modern English, particularly in the Scottish and North American contexts, with specific interest in historical pragmatics and historical sociolinguistics. I am currently involved in the compilation of a Corpus of 19th-Century Scottish Correspondence and co-edit Token: A Journal of English Linguistics. I often participate in national and international research projects, such as (most recently) ‘LModE Conceptualizations of Female Childhood’ at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the PRIN 2022 project on ‘Discourses and Contexts of Well-being in the History of English’.
